LEARN MMA TRAINING BASICS

in MMA, MMA EXERCISE

Weight pull

Everyone knows that in MMA you need to know Muay Thai, JiuJitsu and Ground Fighting as basics, but a lot of fighters still have questions about how to achieve better stamina. Conditioning is the core of every successful fighter. You don’t need a gym membership to run. I run 3 to 5 miles outside 5 days a week. I believe that it’s not how far you run, but how fast.

While training for MMA you need to constantly challenge all of your muscle groups while keeping your heart rate up. Muscle Stamina is key. Circuit Training is a great way to build muscle endurance.

Tire Training

Tire Training has become a mainstay in MMA gyms everywhere. Tire Training is great for many reasons. I do 3 to 5 minute circuits with the tires, first starting off with plyometrics, then tire flips, then sledgehammers.

Iron Body Training

There’s no crying in MMA, until you’ve tried Iron Body Training! Iron Body is the act of conditioning your nerves and body to react properly to getting hit. This kind of training is a little tricky, and I only recommend doing it with someone who knows what they’re doing.

I personally like to build circuits for myself that I can do at the gym, as well as circuits I can do myself at home. Check my website often for updated training techniques and advise.

Rest

After long and intense training your body needs rest. Your body only really recovers during sleep. It’s important to get as much rest as possible to aid your body in it’s recovery, and of course, always drink as much water as possible. During intense workouts your body produces toxins and lactic acid builds in your muscles, so it’s important to flush them out of your system. So get lots of rest and drink lots of water!

Mental Preparation

Having the right outlook is vital. Fighting is tough and I understand it’s normal to get nervous before a fight. I think that it’s important to control those feelings as much as possible though. Training properly and being in shape are great ways to feel less nervous. If you truly believe that you have done everything in your power to train for your fight, then you shouldn’t have any regrets, win or lose. Nervousness can cause an erratic heart rate and ultimately cause you to get tired more quickly during your fight. Leading up to my fights, I make sure that I surround myself with good people. I like to relax and watch movies. Just remember that if you feel yourself getting a little worked up just take a step back and take a deep breath. Stay loose and positive!
