Russian Sambo, Judo, Boxing…. these are 3 of my favorite things!

in Sambo

Being a “Sambo guy” over the years I’ve been disappointed by the lack of Sambo schools around the country. The bottom line is money. Since there is no belt hierarchy in Sambo it’s hard to make money and keep students in a Sambo school. While obtaining a black belt is very important to me the learning process is more important. I think some students and unfortunately some schools with belt systems forget that. Besides the financial aspect which has contributed the absence of Sambo in the U.S. maybe people just haven’t been exposed to the sport. Maybe it’s doomed to remain a nonentity in America. I guess on the bright side Jiu Jitsu has been picking up the slack and has been evolving into a hybrid of the two great submission styles. Eventually there may just be one style. Similar to the way humanity and culture is slowing melting us into one race, maybe one day our children’s children may only have to learn one fighting style which will encompass pieces and moves from all of the martial arts. Here’s some Sambo for you.
